Bill Kills Shill
2006.09.25 (Mon) 11:03
Via Majikthise, we got a peek at a clip of Fox News drone Chris Wallace trying to "catch" Bill Clinton with accusations that the fact that Osama Bin Laden is still breathing is Clinton's fault. Watch the video, or read the transcript.
Clinton has his flaws, yes; but the man is brilliant, charming, and amazingly articulate, and Wallace must be a fucking idiot (or a masochist) to have agreed to do Fox News' bidding on this one. Then again, after years of watching Democrats fold at the first hint of a slight breeze, perhaps he just forgot that a spirited defense was even a possible response. Note how when Clinton doesn't back down, Wallace tries — and again thoroughly fails — to steer the conversation away from the heated topic. Wallace is not only stupid and a liar (oh boy, is he a liar!), he's a playground bully who sees that his intended victim is fighting back and tries to run away.
Of course, Wallace is shocked, shocked that Clinton had this reaction to a very simple and fair question. From an AP article:
Wallace said Sunday he was surprised by Clinton's "conspiratorial view" of "a very non-confrontational question, 'Did you do enough to connect the dots and go after Al Qaida?'"
"All I did was ask him a question, and I think it was a legitimate news question. I was surprised that he would conjure up that this was a hit job," Wallace said in a telephone interview.
Not surprisingly, this is yet another blatant lie by Wallace. Check the phrasing he claims above compared to the phrasing of the actual question, taken from a transcript of the interview:
WALLACE: When we announced that you were going to be on Fox News Sunday, I got a lot of e-mail from viewers. And I've got to say, I was surprised. Most of them wanted me to ask you this question: Why didn't you do more to put bin Laden and Al Qaida out of business when you were president?
Want more? Okay. Wallace asks the question again, the exact same way:
WALLACE: ... but the question is, why didn't you do more, connect the dots and put them out of business?
Not "did you do enough," but rather "why didn't you." All it takes is a few seconds of viewing the clip to verify that Wallace is lying (again), and that he did ask the loaded question and not the more "fair and balanced" one he claims. The difference in how the question was phrased, coupled with Wallace's idiotic attempt to re-spin what he asked after the fact, strongly supports Clinton's accusation that the interview was nothing but a botched conservative hit job.
Thanks go out to Bill Clinton for demonstrating how Democrats should behave when confronted with pure Right Wing bullshit. This was even better than Stephen Colbert's performance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Will it change anything? Eh...our Magic 8 Ball says, "Ask again later." We're not holding our breath.
