The World According to Christian Comic Strips
2004.12.04 (Sat) 17:37
Like much of the Religious Right's nonsense, we can't decide whether to laugh or cry about Jack Chick's litany of bullshit. If you've never seen his crap, and if you're not a weak-minded lemming, then go check it out, and tell us whether you horked milk out your nose, or wept openly — or both.
We first came across this fruitloop when we saw a strip he penned about a fundy moron "showing up" a biology professor by confronting him with the "facts of creationism." It seems he covers lots of other topics as well.
Now here's one about the evils of Dungeons & Dragons. We're not sure which is more odd — the implication that playing D&D drives people to join covens and kill themselves, or the implication that the covens that they join have real magical powers associated with them. Oh, and the bit at the end where the "victim" is enticed to go to a Christian meeting in the exact same manner as they were earlier enticed to go to the coven meeting is priceless!
There are some other strips that entertained us as well — one pointing out how the Catholic church is wrong because its basis is in pagan traditions and it doesn't follow the bible closely enough. Whoops, I guess Chick forgot that the bible is also directly descended from pagan and mythological stories and traditions as well. Just a simple oversight, we're sure.
There are others as well — one showing how humans and dinosaurs lived together just a few thousand years ago, and one showing how the Rapture will happen at any time now, so we'd better be prepared.
The most endearing part of this guy's ministry is his focus on children — by using scare tactics and simple-sounding arguments, he manages to teach bigotry and homophobia, as well as frightening kids into turning to the cult of Jesus. We think we see a Nobel Prize in this guy's future!
Anyway, there isn't really a point we can make that you won't be able to realize on your own if you read these things. It scares the shit out of us that these absolute morons actually believe this utter nonsense, and that they want us all to live by their crackpot rules, but we also find it pretty funny that this is their worldview, and that they don't even see the bullshit, the logical gaps, the bad science, and the missed analogies that show what a load of crap it all is.
Enjoy the read, until you remember that our President counts himself among this same group. Then we're willing to bet that you, too, will be weeping.
