| The Score on The FCC
[Last Modified on 2006.12.03]

The FCC has no standing for their powers to censor what we see and hear in the media. In addition, they have succumbed to the influence of the Religious Right, which has only increased the power that Evangelical Christians have over our mass media. The FCC's power to review, censor, and fine media for violations of rules that they set up must be dissolved. People may choose what to watch, read, or listen to based on how the content fits into their own personal beliefs and tastes.

  • It is certainly unclear how the FCC came up with an outline of what to censor and what to leave alone. With all sorts of violence on television, they choose to censor fairly innocuous things, like a woman's bare back, above the waist. It just doesn't make any sense.
  • Children already have parents to decide what they should or should not be exposed to, and adults are capable of making their own decisions. If you are offended by something on a particular show or channel, then just go watch or do something else. We're offended by the numerous proselytizing Christian shows on television — so we change the channel.
