Answer to Orrin Hatch: Duh!
2006.06.07 (Wed) 15:48
The latest in an ongoing (and certainly not over) Republican push to amend the Constitution to prohibit gay marriage died today, as everyone knew it would. It was a political ploy, plain and simple, and the fact that these politicians ignored the myriad real issues facing our country just to put on a homophobic dog and pony show makes us sick. And it's not that the actions of those who support this amendment shock us, but quite frankly, the neo-cons have just got us so fucking angry at this point that we want to kick them in the face repeatedly. With steel-toed combat boots. We're not sure how many of these pricks actually believe that they're "protecting marriage," and how many know damn well that this is just a piss-poor political ploy to galvanize the far right voters come this November, but either way — they're nothing but a bunch of hateful assholes who shouldn't even be allowed to vote on the name of a new Ben & Jerry's flavor, let alone serious civil liberties issues.
Teddy Kennedy (we're not singing his praises here, but he's dead right on this one) put it this way:
"The Republican leadership is asking us to spend time writing bigotry into the Constitution," said Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, which legalized gay marriage in 2003. "A vote for it is a vote against civil unions, against domestic partnership, against all other efforts for states to treat gays and lesbians fairly under the law."
 | To which Orrin "Pseudo-Righteous Indignation" Hatch replied:
"Does he really want to suggest that over half of the United States Senate is a crew of bigots?"
Hey, asshole: YES. Yes, anyone who is pushing for this affront to Constitutional freedoms is a fucking bigot. Either they really believe that the amendment should be passed and that homosexuals should have limited civil liberties compared to other people, or they are happily willing to use bigotry to further their political careers. Either way: yes, that makes them bigoted fucks.
So, while we don't know if that's what Ted Kennedy was suggesting, we're happy to come right out and say that it damn well is what we are suggesting. In fact, fuck "suggesting" it — we are "strenuously asserting" it. To be as clear as possible: forty-nine Senators voted in favor of the amendment today. Each and every one of them is a fucking hateful bigot.
Any other questions, Orrin "Them Gays Are Wreckin' My Marriage" Hatch? |
