I Don't Know If We Want To Pay For A Dimension We're Not Going To Use
2006.04.27 (Thu) 13:18

This is just too cool not to share. Make sure you watch the whole thing, as it all becomes clear in the end. Hey, that seems like a pretty good metaphor for life. Go figure.

How'd they DO that?

(Hat tip to Lore for the find.)

It's cool. But ahhh my brain hurts now.

Damn! It's gone now. I wish I'd discovered this site sooner. Whatever it is, it looks like it must have been interesting.

Sorry about that, TA — but here, I relocated a new posting of the same video.

TimmyAnn, 2007.02.19 (Mon) 03:18 [Link] »

Wow, that was quick!! Thanks!!

TimmyAnn, 2007.02.19 (Mon) 03:26 [Link] »

I am confused. Maybe my computer just doesn't have a clear enough picture, but nothing "became clear in the end" for me. It was pretty cool, though!

Wow, that was quick!!

No problem. No work tomorrow, so I haven't bothered turning in yet — if it weren't for the corporate world's largely diurnal tendencies, I'd sleep all day and work all night.

I am confused. Maybe my computer just doesn't have a clear enough picture, but nothing "became clear in the end" for me.

I promise I'm not messing with you, but a quick question: have you seen the original Escher image before? If not, take a look — it might be easier to notice the structural dissonance in the original artwork than in the video of the model. (Examine how each "level" is built on the one "below" it.)

If you're already aware of Escher's work, then I apologize for being an obnoxious prat. I was just thinking that if you were confused from the beginning, it might be because you aren't familiar with the original picture — the end "becomes clear" just because the altered camera angle reveals how the 3D model was constructed to deceive the viewer from the original angle. Obviously, the actual Escher concept would be impossible to build in real life — approximating it the way these artists have done is the clever bit.

If you don't buy that, then...um, I don't know...try playing it backwards. That's not the clever bit, but it's a marvelous way to relax.

TimmyAnn, 2007.02.19 (Mon) 04:04 [Link] »

I have seen a few Escher drawings (and I figured this had something to do with him), but not this one. I think my screen may just be just too crappy or something, I can't really tell what the deal is. I will definitely check it out again, though.(And the drawing.)
Oh, and I am currently unemployed (having walked out of my job Tuesday...don't ask!) and when I am not forced to get up for work, I tend to go to bed when the birdies start to sing!! It's nice to know that I am not the only nocturnal being on here!

TimmyAnn, 2007.02.19 (Mon) 04:14 [Link] »

Oh,okay, I see it now. This time I hit pause and got a better look at it. It cut off too quick for me. I am pretty good at understanding what I hear or read, but sometimes visuals can take me a minute!
