Cruise is Crazy, Even Without the Placenta Au Gratin
2006.04.19 (Wed) 22:32

Yes, we've all heard the latest about Tom Cruise and his "plans" to eat the placenta when Katie Holmes delivers his blank-slate-ripe-for-implanting-with-Dianetics...er, baby in a short while. We've also heard that he's insisting he was just joking. Hey, we have no trouble buying that he was joking, but Tom — let this be a lesson to you: if you run around sincerely spouting utterly insane bullshit like you do, don't be surprised when people take seriously the rest of the utterly insane bullshit that you spout. Reaping, sowing, you know the drill.

Of course, our favorite bit in this article was the amusing "slip" attributed to Cruise:

Last week Cruise told US chat show host Diane Sawyer that 27-year-old Holmes, in the final stages of her pregnancy with their first child, will practice "quiet birth."

Cruise explained that "quiet birth," which aims to minimize talk and other noise inside the delivery room," is "basically just respecting the mother."

"She does what she's gotta do," he explained, addressing speculation that such a practice would deny her pain medication. "If she needs medicine, she needs medicine."

[our emphasis]

Not to be too persnickety about it, but note that Cruise didn't say "If she needs medicine, she'll get medicine." Again, such a slip wouldn't be a warning sign coming from somebody who hadn't already demonstrated how batshit insane they are. Tommy: if you don't want your statements to be misinterpreted quite so often, then ease up on the asinine Scientology crap. Otherwise, learn to live with it.

Interesting. That 'quiet birth' method was reported down here as silence for all parties; the mother not even aloud to scream whilst in labor. Not surprisingly, that pissed a lot of people off and there were many letters to the editor in various papers as a result.

But, like you say, nothing surprises any more with Cruise and his Scientology buddies. It's like the boy who cried wolf in reverse, except its the little actor who cried lots of bullshit - you just tend to believe any insane crap you read about him now.

....wow Scientology has the answers for everything! The mother just has to be quiet during labour and everything is OK.....wow amazing... /sarcasm

The fact that Tom Cruise is still considered a role model is still mind blowing today.

I do enjoy how a man (Hubbard and Cruise in this case) can come up with the idea of a quiet birth and pain control. Talk about crushing a woman's rights.

To paraphrase Robin Williams live show at the Met, about the male myth of "experiencing the birth."

"...unless your passing out a bowling ball I don't think so. Unless your circumcising yourself with a chainsaw, I dont think so!. Unless you open an umbrella up your arse....you ain't doing diddly squat! Your along for the ride!"

Sigh...if only he would do a career ending movie...

I love Cruise's 'friendly' spin on the whole quiet birth idea, he gives the reason that it is out of 'respect' (what does that mean for a birth?) for the mother. Bullshit. Why doesn't he come out and tell the real reason, ie those pesky little engrams!

Two Percent, you're glib!
