South Dakota Sends a Hearty "Fuck You" to Women
2006.03.06 (Mon) 23:14

Well, it's official. South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds today signed House Bill 1215, making nearly all abortions illegal in the state of South Dakota. The sole exception is for saving the life of the mother.

What's that you say? What about serious health risks to the mother that aren't immediately life threatening? Fuck you, women, carry that fetus whether you want to or not. But surely pregnancies resulting from rape are an exception, right? Nope — fuck you, women, you're giving birth to that rapist's child (and, uh, that'll be at your expense, by the way). What about a woman's right to choose what happens to her own body? Don't make us laugh! Fuck you, women — now get back to the kitchen and make us a turkey pot pie!

And lest you think that the women's health exception was accidentally excluded from the bill, or that the bill was just poorly worded, take a look at the old language versus the new language. In the old language — effectively, the law in South Dakota before this legislation — abortions after twenty-four months were only allowed "to preserve the life or health of the mother" (page 4, lines 10-11 of the bill shows this as stricken). The new language? Well, it very specifically only refers to medical procedures intended to "prevent the death of a pregnant mother" (page 2, lines 21-22). Wow, folks. It doesn't get any more blatant than that.

Want to read some more shit that'll piss you off? How about the fucking introduction of the bill (page 1, line 13 through page 2, line 3) which reads as follows:

...to fully protect the rights, interests, and health of the pregnant mother...abortions in South Dakota should be prohibited.

Are you fucking kidding? Seriously — fucking what?! It's pretty fucking clear that the exact things these assholes don't give a fuck about are the rights, interests, and health of women. To add insult to this already injurious bill, it's fucking called "The Women's Health and Human Life Protection Act" (page 4, lines 19-20). Is that fucking hypocritical enough for you?

To any of you who aren't already as fucking enraged by this move as we are, here's a quote from Governor Rounds that ought to do the trick:

"In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society."

Vulnerable and helpless?! Hey, fuckwad, you mean like our sisters, wives, girlfriends and daughters for whom potential complications in pregnancy could entail serious health risks?! Is that vulnerable enough? Or perhaps you mean rape victims who, for some odd reason, don't fucking really want to carry their rapist's baby to term?! You fucking sanctimonious asshole. Where the fuck do people like this get the fucking balls to value a fucking clump of cells more highly than the living, breathing woman sitting right in front of them?

To Mike Rounds, and to every member of the South Dakota government who voted in favor of this piece of shit legislation, here's hoping that someday you fucking realize what monstrous assholes you are. Until then, we hope that the women in your lives — your sisters and wives and daughters and friends — hold you personally accountable for this narrow-minded, disgusting, hateful bill that you've signed into law. And to every right wing asshole who thinks that shit like this is a good idea, please go fuck yourselves. We don't personally agree with people who think that the government should legislate what happens in a woman's body for any reason, but we can at least see where people who oppose complete freedom of abortion are coming from — we don't like it, but in a way, we can understand it. However, people who make such a sweeping, blanket declaration — like this fucking putrid legislation — that indicates they don't feel the need to make exceptions for the health of the mother, or in cases of rape, are nothing but fucking insane assholes. We can't stand the idea that we even share a planet with these fucking people, let alone a country.

To the women of South Dakota whose rights, interests and health have just been thrown down, violated and carved to bits by the grinning, shit-eating jackals in your legislature: you have our deepest sympathies. Sadly, this kind of shit won't end here. Other states are sure to follow, and this will all lead to a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade sometime in the next few years that will bring the whole thing to a head. As we said before, we don't like our odds right now based on the composition of the Supreme Court...but we haven't given up all hope yet.

From a post on my site:

How about this: we send you (Rounds) to prison where we allow the Aryan Brotherhood to rape you in the shower. Afterwards, you and your bleeding asshole are going to be dragged to a cell where some guy will tattoo a picture of a fetus on your stomach in bright red ink.

Now, do you think you should be allowed to go and get that tattoo laser-removed? I don't. Nope - your life is not in danger now, is it? You should have to respect that piece of art for the rest of your life. It's art, Mike! Come on!

Mike Rounds also says:

It does not prohibit the taking of contraceptive drugs before a pregnancy is determined, such as in the case of rape or incest.

"Before a pregnancy is determined"? Great, so if you get the morning after pill — which fundy fucks in the FDA are trying to keep from women, and fundy fucks in pharmacies are refusing to supply to women — and you get it right quick, then maybe you're within the law. But if you find out that you're pregnant, then you can't take the pills and you can't get an abortion.

In other words, if you don't know for certain that you're pregnant, then it's okay to terminate the pregnancy medicinally. Way to be a bunch of fucking inconsistent, contradictory, hypocritical assholes.

This law is bunk. It's infuriating.

Whatever happens _inside_ a person's skin is that person's business and no-one else's.

It is certainly not the business of the state.

Today, abortion legislation (the state runs your gonads), tomorrow, brain-chemistry legislation (the state runs your brain), next week, thoughtcrime law (the state runs your mind).

I've known about what's been happening in South Dakota for some time now, but every time I read about it, I get just as angry and outraged as the first time I found out. Knowing what prompted the passing of the bill doesn't help, either; countless women in that state will suffer just because of a calculated political assault on Roe vs. Wade. Even if this assault fails, who knows how many will be affected in the interim? Women, of course, but even mothers, sisters, lovers, and wives can be raped and become pregnant as a result; how many men and families are then affected by extension?

It's sickly and hypocritically hilarious that the wording prohibits any "person" from performing an abortion on a pregnant woman; does that also apply to the pregnant woman if she decides to perform one on herself? After all, it says that any pregnant mother upon whom an abortion is performed or attempted will ^not^ be subject to criminal conviction or penalty. It also states that "medical treatment provided to the mother by a licensed physician which results in the accidental or unintentional injury or death to the unborn child is not a violation of this statute," so I predict we're going to see an upswing in the amount of "accidental" abortions taking place in SD.

I would never wish rape or incest upon any woman (or man), but I also predict (gee, I must be psychic! try debunking me, boys) that if Rounds and his cronies were to find out that their pure white daughters had been knocked up by the local non-white hoodlums (take your pick of Caucasian-challenged races; pure white girls love 'em!), they'll be shipping them off to the nearest out-of-state Planned Parenthood clinic quicker than you can say, "I won't have no half-breed grandbaby!"

Problem: Someone breaks into your house and robs you.
Solution: Homeowners insurance pays to replace it all.

Problem: Someone runs a red light and t-bones you.
Solution: Car insurance pays to get you a new ride.

Problem: Your father rapes you until you're pregnant.
Solution: Fuck you, you filthy cunt.

' abortions after twenty-four months were only allowed "to preserve the life or health of the mother"'

Personally, I think abortions should be allowed up to at least 250 months... With an extra extension allowed for creationists etc.

interupt, 2006.03.07 (Tue) 20:03 [Link] »

Wow. I was reading about this recently, and Ive also read quite a few other US states are planning to do the same. In Australia we have just had a vote to allow RU486 to be allowed to be subscribed under strict controls outside the juristiction of the Health Minister, but for every reasonable step forward somewhere in the world, two steps back elsewhere.

Oh I thought you might like this article. Its about 6 years old, but slaps down the holier than thou attitude of Anti Choice crowd

Well, to be fair, they are logically consistent, assuming the clump of cells is a conscious feeling baby (a false assumption) it does follow that they wouldn't let you abort it even if it was the result of a rape or threatened the lasting health of the women. It just goes to show you that one false assumption can fuck everything up, much the way 2+8*3 and 2*8*3 give you completely different answers.

just wanted to tell you guys that I finally put you on my blogroll. I should have done it while ago, but I'm lazy and shit. keep fighting the ignorance and stupidity of the world

Long time reader, 1st time poster here. I love you guys and just about every bit of "common sense" you post here. It's amazing how many ignorant people there are out there in the world who cant think logically. But anyways be sure to be on the lookout for new mandates. *sarcastically* Next they will be forcing us to donate our organs...

Time to dust off and re-read your copies of "The Handmaid's Tale," b/c that's where we seem to be headed.

The BBC reports that Mississippi isn't far behind SD in the fucknut scale:

In Mississippi abortion is an increasingly hostile debate. Over the next few weeks the wording and the timing of the bill will be discussed by politicians and lawmakers. They insist they are not jumping on any bandwagon. They say they see this as a chance to improve the rights of women and children by making this state abortion free. America looks on and waits.
