Obvious Headline of the Week
2005.09.26 (Mon) 22:30
How does this AP headline grab you?
Brown Says He Should've Sought Aid Sooner
Hey, no shit, Mike. You don't say?
Also of interest in this article:
Brown is continuing to work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency at full pay, with his Sept. 12 resignation not taking effect for two more weeks, said Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke.
Nice to know he'll be able to maintain his lifestyle on the taxpayers' dime, isn't it?
Never one to waste a soundbite, Brownie decided that accepting the blame himself just wouldn't be right; so he invited a few others to join in the fun:
According to the memo, obtained by The Associated Press, Brown took several shots at Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. He said the two officials "sparred during the crisis and could not work together cooperatively."
He also described Blanco as "indecisive" and refusing to cede control of the Louisiana National Guard to federal authorities because "it would have undercut her image politically," the document said.
You know, folks, there's plenty of blame to go around in this situation. Should Blanco and Nagin bear some of this responsibility? Absolutely. But that by no means gets Michael Brown off the hook; or, for that matter, the Bush administration. But thanks for playing, Mike.
We also noticed something that we touched on in a comment on an earlier post. In that post, we argued that Senator Clinton's proposal — to form an independent commission made up of various experts in fields related to emergency management — was the right move, although Republican Senators voted it down. As we said at the time:
...the worst thing that could happen would be for a group of Senators to get together to "investigate" what went wrong. According to the article we cited above, that's exactly what the Republicans are angling for. Now that would be a complete waste of time...
Gee, guess what happened?
As Congress launches its investigation into government missteps in responding to Katrina, Brown's appearance in front of the House panel Tuesday looms as the highest profile yet, potentially offering the most drama.
The inquiry, chaired by Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., is composed mostly of Republicans. Most Democrats have boycotted the investigation, which they say should be done by an independent commission.
What a fucking joke. Why not just let Michael Brown run the investigation himself? We're sure that would be just as productive.

"Brown Sees His Own Stupidity, and Raises" from The Two Percent Company's Rants
We saw a few more quotes from Michael Brown's testimony regarding the Katrina debacle, and we just wanted to respond to them. We picked these up from an AP story carried by ABC News: "I've overseen over 150 presidentially declared disasters.... [More]
