Comment & Email Problems (Both Fixed?)
2005.06.09 (Thu) 13:10
Update 6/13: The comment problem appears to be fixed, though we don't know why. Let us know if we're wrong. It still takes some time to post a comment, but it shouldn't error out any longer.
Update 6/9 11PM EDT: The email problem appears to be fixed. The comment problem remains.
We wanted to pass along two notes regarding site functionality.
First, we have become aware of various issues that people are having when trying to leave comments in our posts. We have personally experienced some of these problems, but they seem to have no discernable patterns that we can yet identify. Sometimes posting a comment results in a message stating that you must wait longer between posts (even though it may be the first post you've tried to leave all day), sometimes it results in a standard TCP/IP network error message, and sometimes the window just stops loading and the screen never changes. In all of these situations, we have observed that the comment ends up posting correctly, but there is no way for the commenter to know that without exiting, going back to the original post, and refreshing the screen. Again, we aren't sure what the cause is, but we are looking into this issue. If anyone is having other problems, please let us know by commenting below (if you can), or via our contact page.
That said, we come to the second issue — we are currently having email problems. At present, and since some time between 1AM and 10AM EDT today, to the best of our knowledge we cannot send or receive any email. Therefore, notifications are likely not working, and our contact page will be useless. We are working with our hosting provider to fix this issue, and we hope to have it sorted out shortly. If anyone has emailed us (or filled out our contact form) after 1AM EDT today (last night), please assume that we did not receive it.
Our apologies for any difficulties this may cause our readers.
