Skeptics' Circle #9
2005.05.26 (Thu) 11:12
The ninth edition of the Skeptics' Circle is available for your perusal at St. Nate's. So grab your divining rod, rub your magic lamp, and spin topless around the greased pole of skeptical hedonism.
In this issue, we see astrologers (or is it astrologists — we never remember which title these bullshit artists prefer), alien abductees, chiropractors, and DaVinci Code disciples. An offbeat inclusion that we enjoyed was Star Wars: Does the Past Change the Past? which explores the effects of George Lucas' practice of revising his fictional history and how that can be applied to actual historical accounts. There is also a solid section on creationism (a favorite topic of ours), which includes our post How Many Licks Does it Take to Get to the Center of a Creationist? which examines the stupid statements made by the creationists at the Kansas Creationism "hearings." Thanks, Nate, for including us!
Issue number nine is being hosted by Circle founder, St. Nate. Since the Circle has now come full circle (so to speak), we'd like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Nate for kicking off this wonderful carnival. For our buck, this is the single best place for skeptics to find a voice anywhere on the internet. By showcasing entertaining and well-written skeptical pieces, it also debunks the oft-mentioned belief that skeptics are boring, depressed people whose only source of pleasure comes in pissing in other peoples' Cheerios. Thanks, Nate, for bringing this all together and for keeping it going.
Finally, this edition of the Circle marks one of the few editions in which Nate's own post hasn't been left out (though it is somewhat well-hidden).
