New Host (and why our old host sucks)
2004.11.19 (Fri) 17:30
2%Co should be up and running now on our wonderful new host.
Our old host, Resiware, completely fucked us over. While there are numerous hosting providers on the market that fold up operations for various reasons, Resiware stands above (or more accurately below) the rest. These fuckwads had the nerve to send the following email to their users:
From: Resiware Administration [mailto:brian@broadbandconcepts.com]
Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2004 4:16 PM
Subject: Very Important Notice
Hello All,
As of 11/16/2004 Resiware Corporate came to the decision to cut web hosting from our business. Resiware has changed business focus and this was up in the air for some time. We are now focused on broadband nationwide. I do understand that this may put some of you in a bad position, we are allowing backups to be built and downloaded through 3am EST.
At 3:00AM EST, ALL Resiware servers will be erased. All accounts, databases, e-mail, and stored files will be lost. Also, all DNS entries will be truncated. We feel that hosting cannot be a profitable, integral part of Resiware any longer.
What happens next? All billing will be stopped and December's hosting will be stopped before it is actually billed. No one will have another charge on their account. Refunds may be issued per request at http://support.resiware.com . Refunds are at our sole disrection as per our Terms of Service.
If you have any questions please contact brian@broadbandconcepts.com.
Special provisions can be made if you cannot let your site go down until you find another host. Again, open a ticket with the subject "Special Provisions."
Thank you,
Brian Clark
CEO
Resiware, Inc.
Broadband Concepts, Ltd.
That's right - less than twelve hours of notice that all accounts will be deleted. What about people who weren't able to check email that day? Fucked. What about people who maintain a business with their sites? Fucked. And that statement at the end of the email about "Special Provisions" to keep the site up? Bullshit. We immediately sent in a request to have our site kept in place through the end of the month, and received nothing but this canned response:
From: Resiware Support [mailto:support@resiware.net]
Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2004 5:35 PM
Subject: Special Provisions
Hello,
All special provision requests MUST be in by 12AM EST or the account will not be backed up nor will it be excluded from the termination schedule.
The flip side is this, the backup server will have ALL accounts backed up until 11/18/2004 . These backups will be as of 11PM EST. They can be downloaded once we release the url to do so. They are all stored offsite and are fresh and full cPanel, mail, MySQL, FTP, website, and other settings in one file.
Please do not request a special provision after 12AM EST. They will not be processed.
Thanks again,
Brian C.
Broadband Concepts, ltd (A Resiware Company)
Since the response from this fuckwad was sent at 5:35PM ET, it is clear that our request for special handling was received long before midnight. However, our continued emails to Resiware went unanswered. At or around 3:24AM ET that night, our account was gone, as was the entire Resiware site. There was no backup server, no reply - nothing.
While we have moved on to a new host that managed to get us up and running with minimal downtime (using our own backup files), Brian Clark - the former CEO of Resiware - moved on to his next venture, Broadband Concepts. I guess anyone who wants to be treated as we were by Resiware should jump at the chance to buy services from Broadband Concepts. For our part, we will be steering clear of this fuckhead.
